Since Excel is on most business computers, it's an easy way to get data to and from Spectrum. Using VBA and macros, Excel can be a reporting tool that doesn't require a Spectrum license in order to pull data and can be utilized to pull ANY data you want out of Spectrum. We have also designed custom forms in Excel that utilize SDX to load data directly into Spectrum.
Frustrated by the Export to Excel feature in Spectrum, and wish you could run reports directly in Excel? Well, we can make that dream a reality! Using VBA and data conections directly to the SQL database, we can create custom reports that mimic report filters in Spectrum. We setup one tab in Excel as the "Prompt" tab with all of your filters, and then when you run the report the data is delivered to another tab in the workbook. We can also have the prompt page produce multiple reports - like a summary and detail page for example.
If you utilize SDX for your Spectrum installation, we can create customized forms that can load data directly into Spectrum. We have created custom forms that do the following:
Some of these SDX loader Excel forms perform multiple data SDX imports based on business requirements, such as a Job Update form and Job UDF update on the same import.
One area where we have helped improve business processes is in the creation of Excel-based forms that prepare the data for direct import into Spectrum. An example is the PO import form that captures all of the data required for Spectrum for purchase orders, and then creating a text file that can be used to import that data directly into Spectrum. There are multiple dropdown lists on the form that are populated via values from Spectrum, so the user has a seamless experience in getting all of the required data for the buyer to import into Spectrum.
Do you have the Query Developer server as part of your Spectrum installation? We can help you maximize the use of this server by creating Excel-based reports that pull data from Spectrum through QD. We have created Excel workbooks that pull data from 6 different queries in QD, and then create a custom form for the users to fill out to generate an SDX import back to Spectrum. The possibilities are almost limitless - if you can dream it up, we can help you get there! We'll put our hard hats on and figure out a way!
